The absence of crooked floors, a quirk of our previous office, adds a touch of stability to our daily routines.

\n\n\n\nThe memories we have made over the past 5 years at this majestic location will be cherished by every single one of us for a long time. The Friday bars, games, presentations, growth and emotional moments, sharing such a large part of our lives in this building together – is something that will stick with us.

Each room in this beautiful building has its own magic, be it the spectacular mirrors gracing the walls or tall windows along the hallways. The koi fish in the pond in our backyard will also be missed, as they were the morning warden for many of us. Worth mentioning is also the possibility to watch the king’s coronation nearly from the office windows.
\n\n\n\nEvery day in this building felt like an adventure, with a mission to succeed in the day’s tasks and have a great, collaborative time with your colleagues, should you dare see it that way.
\n\n\n\nWe will part our ways with this space by celebrating with a round of a bingo game and a last Friday bar in our canteen at Bredgade, and maybe shedding some tears of farewells.

But enough with the pleading, we are very grateful to have spent such great times at this location and are also excited to see what this big move is going to bring to Traffic Lab! The location is definitely going to feel like a brand new start, with the area being still in the process of making into one of the modern hubs of the city. Being surrounded by water brings joyful opportunities for the hot summer days, and the fact that there will be a rooftop hang out area is also something to look forward to. The new space is more open, inclusive and interactive, which is something that our company is happily welcoming.

As a workplace that takes corporate social responsibility seriously, Traffic Lab cooperates with different organizations. We want to make a valuable contribution to the society. One of these organizations we have a partnership with is Foreningen Lige Adgang, an NGO that strives for more equality within our society, education and on the job market. Their projects are diverse, ranging from mentoring young adults and migrants to courses in intercultural competence for companies. One project is the “The Student Job Program”, that is helping people with a refugee background to get a student job in Denmark.
The setup is just as any other student job, except for a little extra sparring with the NGO, if needed.
We were lucky to welcome\nSalim, a student of Software Engineering from DTU, for a 6 month student job. He started in October 2022 and if you\nkeep on reading, you can read how he experiences his job at Traffic Lab.

Motivation to join the Student Job Program
\n\n\n\nSalim is currently on his\n6th semester Bachelor in Software Engineering at DTU. His motivation for joining Traffic\nLab was firstly to get practical and relevant experience to supply his\ntheoretical knowledge at the university.
\nSecondly, he was curious\nabout how a Danish work environment functions.
Expectations to the job\nand the company
\n\n\n\nBefore starting at Traffic Lab, Salim didn’t have any specific expectations, he just hoped to get tasks that would be relevant for his education. From the NGO, he received an introduction to Traffic Lab and how we work, however he didn’t have any expectations to the company at all. Instead, he came with an open mind, thinking “It’s a chance for me, why don’t I use it?”.
\n\n\n\nNow he feels very lucky to have a student job, where he achieves relevant experience. About finding a job like this alone, he says: “To be honest with you, it’s not as easy for me as it is for others, as I have a refugee background.” This is where the NGO Lige Adgang comes into play since they know the difficulties migrants face in finding employment and they actively support them in their endeavors.
\n\n\n\nA warm welcome to a\nDanish workplace
\n\n\n\nIt’s the first time Salim\nis in a workplace where he can gain relevant experience. He has worked in\nvarious fields, but this is his first job in an IT department.
\n\n\n\nHe had a very warm welcoming, “people are very friendly and very happy”, he says, which made him feel good. Salim enjoys the flat hierarchy, joking that it took him a week to figure out who is in charge. He points out that the flat hierarchy is a very big plus, because it creates a stress-free work environment.
\n\n\n\nMoreover, Salim noticed\nhow people smile at him when they meet him in the office. It should be noted that this reflects his own attitude. He is open, always\npolite, and friendly, so it’s natural to meet him with a smile.
\n\n\n\nBuilding a future career\nin Denmark – Saying “yes” to life
\n\n\n\nIt’s a huge benefit for\nhis resume because he has a relevant student job, Salim explains. Aside from\nthat, Traffic Lab provides him insights to different areas that are part of his\nstudies: frontend, backend, database and data engineering.
\n\n\n\nSalim underlines, how much he values the relation to his manager, who\nis, although extremely busy, always available for any kind of questions.
\n\n\n\nHe appreciates the input\nthat he receives both in terms of working in a Danish company but also\nspecifically regarding his profession.
\n\n\n\n“Every day when I am going to sleep, I ask myself What did I learn today? and I find something. I want to develop myself more and more, that’s why I listen to a book half an hour in the morning and in the evening and try to find out, where I can apply the knowledge, I gain from there in my real life. We should never say no to life. Sometimes it’s not that easy but we should face it.”

Overcoming challenges and\ndoubts
\n\n\n\nEven though Salim is\nfluent in English, he says this was something he was nervous about before\nstarting at Traffic Lab. Traffic Lab is an international company – we currently\nhave more employees from other countries than Danes which is why our company language\nis English. When Salim came to Denmark from Syria in\n2015, he focused on learning Danish, as most refugees do to proceed with their\neducation or career. Salim learned Danish within the impressive time of only\nsix months. Therefore, he hadn’t practiced English much in the past years, as\nhis whole education and daily life is in Danish. Nevertheless, his worries\nabout not being proficient enough in English were completely unjustified since he\nhas no problems communicating with his colleagues.

Takeaway for companies:\nWelcome a student with a refugee background to the workplace
\n\n\n\n“Every company should try something new; it’s about giving a chance to people who are trying to develop themselves. They are normal people.”, Salim says.
\n\n\n\nMany people with a\nrefugee background arriving to Denmark already have a solid educational\nbackground (in 2015, 28% of the Syrians coming to Denmark had completed more\nthan 13 years of education1). However, often they have to retake their entire or\nparts of their education, which was the case for Salim. He says “it’s hard, I’m 25 and I still study”. However, by\nattending the 6th semester of his\nBachelor’s, Salim is still ahead of the curve. In 2020, the average age of\nstudents entering higher education was 25.2
\n\n\n\nFrom experience, Salim\nknows about the struggles people have with a foreign name in finding a job in\nDenmark. It’s not just a perception but a fact: Studies have shown that there are considerable discrimination in the hiring\nprocess in Denmark: There is a ”callback\nratio of 1.52 for job interviews between applicants with traditional Danish\nnames and Middle Eastern names. This means that applicants with Middle Eastern\nnames on average have to apply for 52 per cent more jobs to receive the same\nnumber of callbacks as applicants with Danish-sounding names.”3
\n\n\n\nThis is why it’s even\nmore crucial we support projects like this – to advocate for more equality on\nthe job market and give people a chance who don’t have the same chances as\nothers and spread the word about how beneficial it can be – for both the\nemployees and the company.

\n\n\n\nIn this post you can read more about some of the highlights that happened over the course of 2022, as well as read an interview with the CEO, Sebastian Agerskov, concerning his thoughts about the year. Not to mention some hints of what to expect in the future!
\n\n\n\nWe started the year off with having our first friday bar in person after Covid, which sure was amazing and definitely recharged our batteries to meet all colleagues yet again. And on top of that, we had another great reason to celebrate as Traffic Lab won the Affiliate of the Year Awards at the SiGMA iGaming festival in Dubai!
\n\n\n\nBesides that, we also got shortlisted at many industry events, such as the EGR Nordics Awards and IGB. We participated in several iGaming summits and SEO events around the world to broaden our presence and knowledge. All together, it was a successful year full of creating meaningful relationships, strong partnerships and connections.

Unfortunately the start of the year 2022 did also bring a deadful war with it. The horrible events occurring in Ukraine didn’t go unnoticed in the Lab and we joined the Save the Children Ukraine Foundation and the UN Crisis Relief in addition to participating in local collections to raise money for Ukraine.
\n\n\n\nOn the brighter side, Traffic Lab also took part in some sport events in Copenhagen to keep ourselves healthy and motivated. We participated in the Royal Run of Copenhagen as well as the DHL run, both with tremendous success as we are lucky to have colleagues with hidden sporty talents! In the beginning of summer, we came together with other leading industry affiliates and hosted a gathering at our headquarters for the occasion of watching Tour de France. The excellent views from our office simply had to be put into use as the Tour de France route came just by us.

We also hosted our amazing summer party where we got split into mixed groups, with a mission to paint a picture representing unity, some of which ended up like Picasso paintings, while others were less impressive. The day was continued with celebrations on a boat in Christianshavn as we ate some delicious food and had a lively dance floor with a private DJ.
\n\n\n\nAs far as our favorite social occasions go, we continued with our popular Knowledge Days, to encourage our colleagues to meet not only at the office, but also outside of it, while learning something new and inspiring. At the same time we also had our team events where each team did a special activity outside of the office, be it a cooking class or playing laser tag.

We took the time to have a chat with Sebastian whom is the CEO of Traffic Lab about his opinion of the past year as well as some insights into the future.
\n\n\n\nHow was the development of the company throughout the past year, in your opinion?
\n\n\n\n“We added a lot of new talents and clarified role descriptions, which has improved the workflows and clarified the responsibility areas at the company. There have been a lot of changes within the departments, but I think we handled it well and now it is more transparent. We were able to get a better technical structure to some of our major systems. Organizationally and structurally it has been the best year yet.”
\n\n\n\nAre you satisfied with the development of the past year?
\n\n\n\n“I am definitely satisfied, but there is still a lot of potential. I am definitely looking forward to 2023 and beyond.”
\n\n\n\nIs there something you would like to do differently in the next year?
\n\n\n\n“There are a lot of things I would still like to do differently, but I think we still need to spend more time to understand the different departments and how they work, and personally I need to be more available around the company to understand the actual needs of each employee.”
\n\n\n\nWhat would you say was the biggest success of the year 2022?
\n\n\n\n“When I look at January 2022 and December 2022, I can see that we have established a more common target, which is more organized, cooperative and proactive. We can see the results just by looking at our sites, which are ranking better and better.”
\n\n\n\nIs there something that surprised you in 2022?
\n\n\n\n“I think that I am going into every year expecting that something unexpected will happen, so that is the mindset in general to always plan ahead for something unexpected to take place.”
\n\n\n\nWhat are you looking forward to the most in 2023?
\n\n\n\n“I am very much looking forward to the new office opening in Malta, as well as to welcoming more employees and talent to the team. We will continue the journey with a structured way of working, building and ranking our sites, while elevating each department to work and communicate more together as a team. I am looking forward to seeing the fruits of our labor and to continue scaling the company as a whole.“
\n\n\n\nWhat is the toughest part of being a CEO?
\n\n\n\n“I would say one of the toughest things is to take the hard decisions whatever they might be, or to tell people when expectations are not met in a professional manner that comes across as constructive, not personal. In addition, long term planning and the communication hereof can be difficult, as how do you get everyone to understand certain decisions have to be taken now for the future that they might not see yet.”
\n\n\n\nWhat is the most fun part of your job as a CEO?
\n\n\n\n“I think that the most fun part is seeing the people grow and become better today than yesterday. To see them learn new things, obtain more knowledge than myself on a given area and challenge my thoughts. That is what really inspires me and to see that not only the individual is doing better, but also the team is doing better. Seeing that you can rely on people that things are under control is really inspiring to me.”
\n\n\n\nThroughout 2022, our Traffic Lab family has grown with more than 25 new Traffic Labbers and we are very excited to see all the new faces, characters and nationalities contributing to the mix of our Lab! 2022 has definitely been a challenging journey, but it is an absolute pleasure to see all the results we have achieved together. Not to mention, all the great colleagues, partners, suppliers and other parties we cooperated and done business with in 2022. Thank you.

\n\n\n\nAside celebrations, we hosted an event in July together with Better Collective, Gaming Innovation Group, and Vita media Group where we invited partners and operators to our headquarters during the Tour de France. We had the best view of this one-in-a-lifetime experience.

A month later and when we were all back from summer holiday, it was time to attend our Knowledge Day which was mixed with our summer party. As a start of the day we had a quick overview about the industry and future for the company. Then, one of our colleagues from Colombia wanted to share part of her culture inviting us to what Colombians call “hora loca”, we followed some dancing moves, laugh and enjoyed the moment. After, we continued with a different activity that sparked our creative minds. We were distributed in groups and together we had to represent the word Unity on a canvas. Since then those paintings are part of our canteen decoration.

After both activities during the morning of our Knowledge Day, it was time for us to get fancy and ready for our summer party, on a boat! We had very tasty food, free drinks, a DJ, and great vibes. It was the perfect setting to enjoy one of the last days of the Danish summer and welcome a new season.

Many other things have happened at Traffic Lab during the 3rd quarter of the year such as participating in conferences of the iGaming industry in Barcelona, Amsterdam, Serbia and also we joined leadership trainings in Helsinki. In the coming weeks our SEO department will attend the BrightonSEO event in the UK to keep ourselves up to date in the so-changing SEO world.

Certainly, one of the continuing projects at Traffic Lab is the Knowledge Day. It is a space where we get to learn about each other and understand the different tools that a fast-paced growing company needs to have to achieve its commercial goals but first and foremost its employee’s wellbeing.
\n\n\n\nOn February 11th we held our first in-person knowledge day of the year at Bredgade 30 in a very spacious conference room and of course, Danish style, with lots of coffee and cake. The day started with different activities defined by each department. Our Sites Department for example went out on a morning date at Creative Space together, where they painted their own pottery. Other departments decided to get breakfast together or stayed at the office instead and held a brief on Cyber Security.

During the\nafternoon we were informed about a new initiative that aims to improve the\ndialogue between managers and employees, to help each other to be seen, heard,\nand acknowledged. This initiative is called 1:1 Lab Talks. It is a 30-minute\nmonthly one-to-one talk between manager and employee covering these six main\ntopics:

The benefit of the 1:1 Lab Talks is that “it gives the chance to talk about what’s relevant for both parties and to have a follow up on a regular basis instead of once a year as we were doing with the yearly employee development talks ( MUS) conversations” says Heidi Thisgaard, our head of Human Resources. This initiative encourages teams at Traffic Lab to find solutions as a group and individually to move forward on our day-to-day work. We are constantly trying to build a path towards the future of work which is employee well-being.

It feels that it was just a couple of weeks ago that we were celebrating the opening of our basement or even playing online bingo in our Friday bar while working from home. Despite a pandemic and the restrictions that came along, we were able to enjoy most of the year with different in-person social activities and working days at the office.
\n\n\n\nWhen Denmark entered the first stage of the planned lifting of corona virus restrictions in April, we started to encourage people to work from the office when they felt it was easier and safer. This led us to implement the Traffic Lab Corona Safety Rules which meant that when participating in company activities or working from the office, we needed to present either a negative PCR or antigentest that was not more than 72 hours old, or a full vaccination documented in the digital Coronapas app or a previous infection with no more than 180 days old, also documented. Aside of this, when working from the office, we needed to keep a 2 meters distance to fellow co-workers, use facemasks in common areas and alcohol-based rub as often as possible.
\n\n\n\nAt the end of May we had our first in-person Friday bar\nsince the first lockdown! We were looking so much forward to relax and have a\ngreat time together at the\nbeautiful Bernstorff’s Mansion and its historical setting. The following months more events took place. Our summer\nparty at Klampenborg Galopbane where we had amazing dinner and music to enjoy\nthe dance floor. Our Halloween party where the spookiest costume won a B&O Wireless Speaker M3 and our Christmas dinner with a great view from the terrace of the\nbuilding we were having a remarkable night.

Aside of\nsocial events, in Traffic Lab we also think about strategies that can help our\norganizational performance and enhance our professional development. This is\nwhy we created a new concept at work:\nKnowledge day. This monthly meeting took place at the office from July and is\ninspired by finding ways to address the after-pandemic effects on employees. It\nis a space where we can learn from external speakers and team-building workshops\ndeveloped by ourselves once per month at the office.
\n\n\n\nIn general, 2021 was the year where the main goal was finding innovative ways to maintain the spirit up. Traffic Lab is constantly looking for a balance between the fact that we need to care for everyones safety while maintaining a business that runs forward. We don’t really know if a “normal day at work” is even going to be possible in the upcoming times, but we are certain that we will be able to keep ourselves together and stronger than ever.

For CEO Sebastian Agerskov, this represents the process of building up a foundation as “Traffic Lab started in an old cinema location, similar to a basement, thus, this opening has an immense meaning to traffic lab roots” he mentions. We are slowly taking over the beautiful Bernstorff’s Mansion and its historical setting.
\n\n\n\n\nWith a slow but steady process of getting back to the office, we are also remembering the feeling of being together in the same space again 🙌. June was a big month with many different celebrations and changes such as the opening of the basement. While we were mostly working from home, the construction workers were extremely busy, adding new office spaces but also a big canteen, rooms for meetings and social activities and even a wine cellar to our beautiful mansion. On the opening day, we had a big party in the new part of the office and we were blown away by how beautiful it turned out. The inauguration was the first time we all got to see our co-workers again in person, which after lockdown and working from home brought up a feeling difficult to describe as it was weird to be closely together again but at the same time a lovely experience.

Another cause for celebration was the birthday of our company on June 27th – Traffic Lab has been in the industry for 7 years now. What a journey! And as we develop, different changes also come along: We are back at the office 2 days a week, not only because it makes it easier to schedule meetings but mainly because we want to put an extra emphasis on the social aspect of working at Traffic Lab. We have an amazing working culture that we want to enhance again after so many months of separation.
\n\n\n\nFor the same reason, we have also implemented a new tradition – The Traffic Lab Knowledge Day. In the upcoming months, we are going to have a day specially dedicated to fostering our company culture, getting more knowledgeable in different areas, learning from each other, sparking new ideas and most of all to be together or as Sebastian says “the office is becoming more than a place for meetings, is also welcoming an “after-work” life”. We have already had the first Knowledge Day on July 2nd, which we all enjoyed a lot. And one thing can be told: There are big things in store for Traffic Lab!
